Campaign Help
Campaign help can be divided into two parts. We can help the County Party help the candidates, or help the candidates directly or both.
County Party Help
As for helping the County Party where you live, start going to meetings and ask them simply "What Can I Do". Ask again if necessary. Depending upon the individual County Party they will have functions and rallies and other things that they could use your help with.
One word of warning. The Parties sometimes are leery of new faces, its just human nature. If you want to help, just keep asking. Once you do something people will start to trust you. Look for ways to help. Remember too that you are volunteering your help not your political agenda.
During elections times, the County Parties try to do things that not only help the Candidates, but help the Party in general such as having "Get to know the Candidate" events during the primary season. Other efforts such as Phone Calls and Literature Drops will be organized and need volunteers to run them. Just showing up at any public Republican event is a welcome thing.
If your County Party runs a HeadQuarters during elections, they are in need of volunteers also to greet people walking in and help with the other things going on.
Regardless of what your County Party does it will do it better with your help. The County Party is only as effective as its members.
Candidates Need Help Too
Candidates whether they're running for the President or Township Trustee, need volunteers. They need volunteers in all manner of ways; from putting up yard signs to being part of their staff. Local Candidates need to create "a buzz" about themselves and their candidacy. They do that by having a dedicated group of volunteers that march in their parades, put up yard signs, help out at fundraisers, and go to public events wearing buttons or tee shirts of the candidate. Also if you can set up a "Fundraiser" or a "Meet and Greet" for the Candidate, they will love it.
As with helping the County Parties, Candidates are more open to you helping them with what they want to do than the other way around.
As a personal note, the way I volunteer is to pick a candidate running at a level which I feel comfortable with, then do whatever they need done to the best of my ability. I also attend the County meetings and volunteer when I can there as well.
There needs to be a synergy between the Party and the Candidates. When there is, everything works better. Without good candidates the Party falls apart, also the Candidates are more likely to win elections with a strong County Party getting out the vote and providing the extra volunteers, money and "buzz" needed.
As always, start now, go to meetings; (see side bar - Calendar) start figuring out "What Can I Can Do".
